Peru & Machu Picchu

In December 2010, my adventurous soul took me to Peru with Big Five Tours and Expeditions along with Casa Andina Private Collection properties. Machu Picchu and the Incan Ruins have been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and the experience did not disappoint. My visit included time in the Miraflores district of Lima, as well as an afternoon trip to Pachacama Ruins south of the city. In the Sacred Valley, my time included stops at the famous Pisaq Market, the ruins of Ollantaytambo, and a visit to a local village called Wiloq. The travel to Machu Picchu was by VistaDome train. Machu Picchu itself was more than I could have imagined, and my one day there was not enough time to explore the massive site properly. Looking down over this awesome accomplishment of the Incas left me speechless. In Cuzco, I toured the city including a stop at the Santo Domingo Church, also known as the Sun Temple. The afternoon included stops at Saqsaywaman and Q’enqo Ruins as well as an Alpaca store for shopping.
After touring the major ruin sites of Peru, I headed off to the Amazon for a few days with Explorama staying at Ceiba Tops Lodge. What an experience! I got to go fishing for Piranha, and see an Anaconda up close that some locals caught. I went on a canopy walk from Napo Lodge through the rainforest. Meeting and visiting the local the Yagua tribe was a once in a lifetime experience.
Whether you are interested in history or culture or combination of the two, Peru has so much to offer. It is a large and diverse country with so much more I’d like to explore, and share with future travelers. Please contact me if you would like help planning your Peruvian adventure.
