April 2010, on my return from Tahiti I stopped over in the Hawaiian Islands visiting the Big Island of Hawaii and Maui again. I had previously been to Oahu, Kauai, and Maui on another trip many years ago. On the Big Island, I stayed at the Marriott Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Kona Coast. I explored the beautiful island on my own with stops at the Botanical Gardens, Akaka Falls, and Volcanoes National Park. The hike across the caldera in Volcanoes National Park is one of those surreal moments when you have to stop and take it all in. What a spectacular experience! Here is a link to check out some of the hikes available: http://www.gorp.com/parks-guide/travel-ta-haleakala-hawaii-volcanoes-national-park-hiking-sidwcmdev_067380.html
I continued my journey, and spent a few days on the island of Maui at the Hyatt Regency Maui in Kaanapali. I tried a paddleboarding experience on Kaanapali Beach, and went to see Ulalena at the Maui Theater in Lahaina. While in Lahaina, I spent some time shopping along Front Street. The rest of my time I took time relax by walking the beach and take in the beautiful scenery. If you are interested in traveling to the Hawaiian Island, I would be happy to share any of my Hawaiian experiences from my previous trip or my most recent.
